What is an Amazon FBA prep service?
An Amazon FBA prep service gets your products ready to ship to Amazon fulfillment centers. A prep center receives and inspects the units, applies FNSKU labels, bags or boxes items to Amazon's rules, builds sets and packs cartons, so the shipment passes Amazon's receiving checks.
FBA prep steps before inventory reaches Amazon
Receive and check the delivery, label each unit, bag or wrap it, bundle sets where needed, then pack cartons and print carton labels from your shipment plan. Each step has an Amazon rule behind it, and a missed one is what causes a rejected or fee-charged shipment.
Why Amazon sellers outsource FBA prep
Prep is repetitive and has to be exact. Sellers hand it off to get their time back, avoid renting space to do it, and to have a team that prepares hundreds of units a day to the same standard. Since January 1, 2026, Amazon no longer does it for them in the US.
Sellers remain responsible for the prep. Inventory with inadequate packaging, prep or barcode can be refused, returned or repackaged at the seller's expense, and shipments created after the change that arrive unprepared are not eligible for reimbursement if lost or damaged.
When do you need Amazon FBA prep services?
Not every shipment needs a prep center. These three situations are where it pays for itself.
Your units are not labeled correctly
Your supplier shipped without FNSKU labels, with the wrong barcode, or with labels that do not scan. Relabeling 800 units at your kitchen table is hours you will not get back.
You want to avoid rejections and delays
One rejected carton can freeze a listing for weeks. A second pair of trained eyes before shipping costs far less than the delay.
Inventory needs inspection or repackaging
Mixed lots, returns and wholesale cases need checking, cleaning and new packaging before they can be sold as new.
Amazon FBA labeling and compliance rules
Amazon can reject or fee inventory that arrives unprepared. Here is what it asks for and what we do about it.

The 3-foot drop test
Amazon judges packaging by dropping the item five times in a row from 3 feet onto concrete. It must survive without leaks or damage to the product. Amazon does not run this test for you, so we pack to pass it.

When in-house prep makes sense
You ship a few dozen units a month, the products are simple, and you have a clean space and a label printer. The prep fits in a few hours a week.
When outsourcing is safer
You sell many SKUs, products need bagging, bundling or inspection, you import by sea, or one rejected shipment would stall your restocking. At that point prep is a process, not a chore.

What is Amazon FBA prep?
It is the labeling, bagging, bundling and packing your units need before they ship to Amazon fulfillment centers.
Does Amazon still provide FBA prep and labeling?
No. Since January 1, 2026, Amazon no longer provides prep and item labeling for US FBA shipments. Sellers prep inventory themselves or use a provider such as EcomAutoPrep.
Does FBA prep include labeling?
Yes. FNSKU labeling is the core of it. We print and apply labels to each unit, and we cover other barcodes that could be scanned by mistake.
Can a prep center help prevent Amazon shipment rejections?
It can reduce the risk. Most rejections come from labels that do not scan, wrong unit counts and packaging that fails Amazon's rules. We check each before cartons close, and the final decision is always Amazon's.
Do I need FBA prep if my supplier labels products?
Often yes. Supplier labels may use the wrong barcode, misprint or sit under a retail barcode. We check them, relabel if needed and prep the packaging, which suppliers rarely do to Amazon's rules.
Can FBA prep support ecommerce sellers outside the U.S.?
